Edna Louise Polkinhorn passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017, following a brief illness. A resident of the apartments at Christian Care Center in Mesquite, TX, for the past 10 years, Edna was a spry and witty 96-year-old preceding her death.

She was born November 3, 1920 to John D. and Lillie Mae McKenzie of Barbour County, Alabama, but spent most of her young life in Mississippi, where she graduated from Jones County Agricultural High School in Ellisville.

Married to Edward Harry Polkinhorn Jr. on January 4, 1947, in New Orleans, LA, the couple resided in several states before transferring to Mesquite with LaDew Incorporated in 1958.

Edna worked part time as a saleslady at J. C. Penney, but spent most of her days as a housewife and mother to three sons. She loved spending time with her family, attending church at Oates Drive Baptist, visiting shut-ins and the sick, and traveling.

A devoted Christian who loved Jesus with all her heart, Edna greeted everyone with a smile and kind words. She loved being around people, talking about anything and everything, and was extremely proud of her family. She was also known to adroitly change the subject when conversations headed in a different direction than what she wanted.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, John D. and Lillie Mae McKenzie; husband, Edward Harry Polkinhorn Jr. (who died in 1997); three brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by a sister, Barbara Seal of Florence, MS; sons, Edward Michael Polkinhorn and wife Cretia, of Garland, TX, Raymond Harry Polkinhorn and wife Deborah, of Farmersville, TX, and Gary Dale Polkinhorn and wife Cris, of Reno, NV; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Anderson Clayton Gonzalez Funeral Home in Mesquite, with services scheduled 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at Oates Drive Baptist Church in Mesquite. Burial will be at Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton, TX.
